The versatile Beal Joker, certified as a single, double, and twin rope, will delight climbers and alpinists seeking light weight, suppleness, and security. Traditionalists looking for a multi-purpose rope for ridge climbs, or other classic, mixed or snow routes will also love the Joker.
The Joker is made with Unicore, an astonishing process where the sheath and core are bonded without affecting the rope’s suppleness. If the sheath is cut or torn, the core and sheath remain bonded together, greatly increasing the safety margin of the rope. Check out the video for more info on this amazing feature.
The Joker features Golden Dry treatment, where both the sheath and the core are dry treated. This way the rope has an astonishing water impermeability and incredible durability. In 2012 the UIAA adopted a new requirement for hydrophobic ropes that is now in full force. In this test a rope is subjected to light abrasion and soaked for 15 minutes. The amount of absorbed water must not be greater than 5% of the sample’s weight. Beal’s Golden Dry ropes easily qualify as “UIAA Water Repellent.” A non-treated rope absorbs between 40% and 50% of its weight in water.
GOLDEN DRY
Every filament of the sheath and the core of Golden Dry ropes is treated with a water repellent chemical before the rope is manufactured. This chemical covering is polymerised at high temperature. The durability of this treatment is given by the polymerisation, but also because of the individual treatment of each filament before the rope is made. A Golden Dry rope is a rope with the core Dry treated, and a sheath of Dry Cover.

What is UNICORE® Technology ?
— An astonishing process, bonding rope sheath and core without affecting the rope’s suppleness.
— If the sheath is cut or torn, the core and sheath remain bonded together.
— With a standard rope, if the sheath is cut by abrasion over an edge, a frequent occurrence in the mountains, it slides and gathers over some metres.
— It then becomes impossible to pass this zone, whether ascending or descending.
WARNING – Beal dynamic ropes are treated with a durable yarn cover to increase resistance to wear and humidity, and thus increase their active lifetime. When new, the braking effect of descenders and belaying devices is reduced. Before using the rope together with any friction device, check that the combination works effectively and securely to avoid any braking surprises.
